# artistic tile: il monile byzantina mosaics, grout or not?

last week sarah from **remodelista** wrote a fun post on her top 5 italian tiles and we were honored to be included!([see here](http://remodelista.com/posts/5-favorite-italian-tile-makers))

the featured tile is one of our designer favorites,** il monile byzantina mosaic in color- moonlight**  (click photo for more info):

however, because this is such a special mosaic and artistic tile, many clients have had the same question when specifying:

**Q.**  it doesn't appear that that the byzantina mosaics from il monile require grout. is this the case?

**A.**  good question! byzantina mosaics are created in a completely unique manner that allows for NO grout installations. just the beauty of the hand-chiseled tiles will show through. HOWEVER, should you want to place these in a backsplash or other area where you want to keep things out of their unique nooks and crannies then clé recommends using a complementary colored grout.
