Amorous for Timorous Beasties

02 November 2011

Tile Envy has a new daily banner thanks to our friends at Studio H! I love my Tile Envy crow- but really love him (he's a him) in his psychedelic digs. Thanks, Studio H!!

And speaking of crows- recently, I was shopping for a client and stumbled upon a wonderful new resource from Glasgow. You know the feeling when you've happened upon something extraordinary and you can't quite believe what you're seeing?

Founded in Glasgow in 1990, Timorous Beasties is the slightly unruly brainchild of Alistair McAuley and Paul Simmons- friends since studying textile design at Glasgow School of Art. Their unique vision of contemporary themes depicted on textiles, rugs, wallpapers, china and tiles use traditional visuals and means of production to create works that have been described as “William Morris on acid.”

Working with other such outlandish visionaries as haberdasher Philip Treacy and gifted tile and china maker Rita Simmons of 3 Cubed allows their imagery to transform outrageous forms as well as the most common.

With shops in both London and Glasgow- they fulfill their dreams (and nightmares) with the ability to create and sell -

My favorite of all Timorous Beasties goodies is their Thistle rug which happens to be everyone's favorite as well. It was winner of top flooring design product for Elle Decorations 2006-
