and the winner is...

03 August 2012

everyone in our household has been eagerly awaiting phelp's performances this olympic season. then what an interesting twist, to witness his big loss to south african, chad le clos. the story was wrenchingly poignant when le clos described his emotional win over his long-time hero. oh, the olympics...

yesterday, we selected our own winner for the artist proof from south africa's ruan hoffmann.

well, actually "luck" chose our winner. i'm hopeless at selecting -one- of anything, let alone a contest winner where so many of the entries were so heartfelt. if we hadn't drawn the winner from a hat, i'm sure i'd have been as emotionally torn as le clos.

so congratulations to contest winner, christine hanway.

and speaking of the olympics, christine apparently hails from london. what a fantasy- to have the opportunity to hand deliver your lovely award, meet the queen and check out daniel craig! at the very least, i'm looking forward to a photo of the new home for ruan's tile.

for all the rest of you who took the time to enter, thank you for your wonderful entries. i thought it would be fun to post some of the entries tomorrow (first names, only) on glazed and confused since there were such inspired sentiments for the much love me collection.

THEN, as if on cue, yesterday i woke to a veritable treasure trove of photos from ruan as he took snaps of a priceless installation of tiles created for his family's home. due to a much needed renovation, the tiles are no more. what an agonizing demolition- lost forever to history. the following photos are all that's left:

from the ginsberg poem- white shroud.
