Get this look...Shabby Chic

07 June 2010

I love British classics, especially those of the 19th century sort. So, yes, that would include Masterpiece Theatre and all the cinematic versions of Jane Austen's works .

I've always been a sap for her sentimental themes, however, I'm also fond of the cinematic translations because of the sets. Take a look below for some great stills from the most recent Pride and Prejudice as offered by apartmenttherapy.com-

I love the costumes, furnishings and the finishes in their gentrified perfection but I think I like them even more when they age into the vintage English elegance of shabby chic.

And as a lifestyle, there's no mistaking that Shabby Chic isn't going away thanks to Rachel Ashwell, whose singular vision continues to propel the shabby chic movement. I believe that this home-style version of a gigantic hug has become a design force due to Rachel's sheer commitment to the aesthetic. For anyone seeking comfortable vintage surrounded by weathered English finery, Rachel provides every inch of this sentimental look via her shabby chic empire.

Additionally, I've got a modern twist on why I think shabby chic keeps on keeping on even in these modern times- shabby Chic is green! And I don't mean celadon. Flea market, craigslist, ebay and garage sale finds are all being repurposed and personalized into a variety of vintage chic looks. Shabby chic happens to be one of the more comfy, white-washed and now "green" of these vintage chic styles.
