January 2011 - House of the Month

26 January 2011

I've long been curious about David Hicks. I'd love to take a design course on his use of color, pattern, and mix of old with new. Wouldn't that be the best? Not that I think one can simply study and mimic such bold style. I believe a talent like David's is a unique combination of a gift that is unfettered by self-consciousness. It's hard to come by both, and worth studying when it does surface.

Fortunately for us, this month's issue of World of Interiors featured the home of Ashley Hicks, David's son. An architect and designer, himself, Ashley carries on his father's legacy with his own vision of color, pattern and texture. Each room of his home is one surprise after another. It's fun describing a home like that.

But before you begin to scroll through, I'd like to point out the floors (again!). You know how much tile envy I have for all Popham Design works. Ashley has apparently combined his father's amazing patterns and colors to product perfection with Popham's concrete craft. You will see these tiles in nearly every floor of Ashley's home. I'm still swooning!
