Concrete - my first introduction to this industrial product was as Bugs Bunny was directing tons of it out the back of a gyrating ACME truck all over Daffy Duck. I've been infatuated ever since.
Interior, exterior, walls, floors, design or structure- I'm fond of any surface made of concrete. Recently there have been so many great products developed using concrete and it's been nice to finally see it taking its place residentially as well as in commercial projects.
I was just going through my Tile Envy cache of news clippings and found this group of photos featuring works by Katalin and Andras Ivanka form the Budapest design firm- Studio Ivanka. Together the Ivanka's collaborate with other artists/designers to explore and stretch the uses of concrete. Last year- Mocoloco toured the Salone Satellite in Milan and shared many installations by Studio Ivanka. The following photographs are my picks for the most interesting- as the others were just a bit too strange, even for me.
(historically referenced garden pavers)
(found object tiles)
And I'd certainly like to encourage you to view the rest of their exhibit (click any photo). Experimentation is always a good thing.
