Target + Missoni

17 August 2011

Unless you've been living in a shell, it's been impossible to miss all the press that's been going around about Target and Missoni pairing up for what would appear to be a great take on Fall's back-to-school blitz. I've been catching the ad's here and there- but then stumbled upon their 400 item facebook page. Let's just say that there is far more than an ipad cover and knit socks to check-out.

A zillion years ago, when I used to be concerned/excited about my back-to-school garb - Missoni was certainly not on my radar as a solution. Moreover, I really wasn't a fan of the Italian fashion icon's zig-zaggy trademark. My generation was all about knit as a craft and best left to fishermen with needles, not Italians with knitting machines and a flamestitch. Additionally, Missoni colors were too sophisticated for my youthful palate. Naturally, way back then I didn't think it was sophistication, but matronly.

These day's I guess my matronly self would love an entire wardrobe of their chevron's and stripes in any color. And possibly thanks to those zillion years of style, Missoni has become a legend. This season the hippest kids can look forward to donning Missoni goods at a price anyone can handle. And with housewares, and other items available in the classic designs, I'm not quite sure if I want to thank Target or blame them for their Missoni collaboration. What's your take?

I seemed to remember a tile collaboration with Missoni. Do any of you remember that?? Was it a printed porcelain from Italy or maybe a Sicis or Bisazza creation?
