Tuscan Whites

24 May 2011

Here's today's design question -

How the heck to update all those homes from the past couple decades that took their design cues from Tuscan farmhouses?

Answer: Turn them into dreamy Mediterranean villas!

Recently, I've encountered a number of properties that enjoyed the Tuscany look early on at the inception of this eternally long style rage. Now many of these clients are ready for an uplift and yet- what to do?? Certainly the olive, rust, and saffron colors need to be retired to dwell forever alongside their predecessors the harvest gold and avocado era of our parents.

At least our version of these colors were balanced with well-meaning stone, iron and distressed woods. So great- now you've got a tired color palette and better than standard materials. It wouldn't be reasonable to start from scratch again just so you can get some cool glamour and a bit of sophistication.

Thank goodness for bloggers like Jo from desire to inspire and her recent post on this fairytale look from Chateau de Moissac. A glance at some of the best eye candy I've seen in a long time, the images also invoke just the right transformation for those clients in desperate need of a glamourous and dreamy Mediterranean update. With strokes of powdery whites, greys and beiges to neutralize the setting, each of these rooms are breathtakingly serene, cool and somehow modern-

These heavenly rooms would be plenty good enough for me, but should you want to raise this a notch or two, try throwing in some modern finished pieces- chrome, lucite and lacquer- YUMMMMEEEE!
